We are starting to see early reported signs of box tree caterpillars at different stages of their development. This season, the weather has been variable in regards to the temperature. It has been warmer earlier in the year, which has caused caterpillars to become active earlier than normal.

BASIS award finalist

Laura Davey, Fargro's Digital Agronomist, has been nominated as a finalist for the Paul Singleton Award, which is presented to the candidate with the highest mark in their Certificate of Crop Protection project.

Laura's project investigated black vine weevil control, trialling a new Metarhizium anisopliae product in ornamentals, specifically cyclamen. Her research yielded impressive results, with the Metarhizium achieving 98% control of vine weevil across the trial. Additionally, Laura conducted a survey with ornamental growers to gauge their opinions, challenges, and opportunities in vine weevil monitoring and control.

Finalist for Project Management Graduate of the Year

Rebecca Beveridge, Fargro’s Project Consultant, has received a nomination for Project Management Graduate of the Year, which is part of the APM (Association Project Management) National Education and Research Awards 2024. The University of Portsmouth nominated Rebecca in February, and has been announced as one of the five finalists.
