Spain’s Best Wine - Huge Score - Tiny Production

In the region of Priorat there are scores of superstar wine producers today, all making beautiful wines primarily from the Grenache and Carignan grapes. In this sea of great wine, no name looms as large or responsible for the revolution in winemaking in Priorat as Daphne Glorian from Clos Erasmus. Her wines are uniquely identifiable with the boutique estate of 10 hectares barely producing 300 cases each year of her first label, Clos Erasmus. It is inevitably scarce and expensive in older vintages, but deservedly so, however, as this is one of the regions’ and indeed Spain’s greatest red wines. The 2013 goes for nearly $300 a bottle if you can find it!

"a little in the style of 2013 but with higher yields." - Wine Advocate

The 2018 vintage for Priorat was ideal for production as well as phenolic ripeness. It is no surprise then that the 2018 vintage in Priorate is frequently compared to the great 2013 in terms of quality. Clos Erasmus excelled in 2018, and this 85% Garnacha and 15% Syrah received meticulous care and cold soaks that lasted 5 weeks resulting in a wine with intense concentration and energy. Like all Clos Erasmus, you will need to have patience with this wine to get the full payoff. If you just cannot wait, we suggest you decant for a minimum of 2 hours before consuming.

Today we can offer you the new release 2018 of this microscopic production at the best price in the country. You can secure this nearly perfect (RP99 rated) wine at just $200 a bottle!

Only 276 cases total were produced, so really don’t hesitate to add some to your cellar.

The 3-packs land with us later this week and can have these shipped out on February 15th! Reply directly to secure your order!

"A blend of 85% Garnacha and 15% Syrah, 2018 Clos Erasmus comes from a year with good yields and enough rain for good ripeness of the grapes. The vines are now 36 years old on average, and the grapes fermented after a cold soak in 1,000-, 1,500- and 2,000-liter oak vats with indigenous yeasts and a five-week maceration. It matured in new and second use Burgundian 228-liter oak barrels, with around 40% new oak. This is a very elegant and perfumed vintage for Clos Erasmus, a wine that reveals a bright ruby color and a exotic nose that mixes flowers with tons of sweet spices. It is still very young and influenced by the élevage in oak, with something herbal and fresh, reminiscent of pine needles. The palate is textured and velvety, lace and dust, with fine-grained tannins that bring back the memories of the slate rocks; it is pure and detailed and has terrible balance, focus, inner strength, filigree and subdued minerality. I'd wait a little bit for the oak to get integrated before pulling the cork. It has the ingredients, stuffing and balance to develop nicely in bottle for a long time. 3,319 bottles and 100 magnums produced. It was bottled in May 2020."
