OUR PARENTING PREDICTIONS FOR 2023
1. Expectations for parents have gotten out of control. We’ve become professional educators, therapists, educators, chefs, interior designers, event planners, entertainers… the list goes on.
This year, parents will start rejecting these standards and obligations. Parents will embrace what we’re calling “Do Less” Parenting, where parents prioritize what’s important and let go of the rest.
2. The cool kids like “dumb” phones We all know smartphones are bad for kids. The cool kids in Brooklyn are starting a trend parents will love - they’ve “discovered” “dumb” flip phones, and folks… the kids love 'em. We think this trend will accelerate and in the next few years, most parents will get their kids “dumb phones”.
3. Multigenerational homes make a come-back Nuclear families where parents are expected to hold it all together, work, and raise their children alone… are a ridiculous construct. Young families will agree and move their aging parents in to help with childcare and expenses. According to Pew Research, the percentage of Americans living in multigenerational homes quadrupled from 1971 to 2021, and over half of them find the arrangement convenient or rewarding. This pattern will accelerate as boomers retire and decide to help adult kids purchase homes.

HELP A PARENT OUT!
We mentioned kids podcasts above, and we got this related question from Alison in Florida, whose kids are 3 and 5:
"My kids are starting to like podcasts. Can anyone recommend story-based podcasts that are age-appropriate and engaging young kids? Ideally, 10-20 minutes per episode. Thanks!”
Reply to this email with recommendations for Alison, or with questions / comments of your own.
