Global Trends Report
The recent
Global Trends 2025 report presents UNHCR’s latest statistics on forcibly displaced and stateless populations worldwide, highlighting a notable shift. The global number of forcibly displaced people declined by 4 percent to 117.8 million at end-2025, marking the first decrease in a decade. This change was driven in part by a significant increase in returns, with 14.7 million displaced people returning to their areas or countries of origin during the year, and many of these returns took place under adverse circumstances or in fragile contexts. Beyond the global overview, the report explores protracted refugee situations, including the duration of exile in East and Southern Africa, and introduces the High Commissioner's
50 by 35 vision. This initiative aims to halve the number of refugees who depend on humanitarian assistance by 2035 while expanding access to durable solutions.

Since the first Forum
in 2019, one out of four pledges have been fulfilled, with implementation accelerating since the second edition of the Forum
in 2023. Participation has also become more inclusive, with people with lived experience of forced displacement increasing from 3 percent in 2019 to 17.5 percent in 2025. The biennial
GCR Indicator Report tracks and analyses progress towards achieving the Compact's objectives.
The GCR remains a key blueprint to translate commitments into sustainable solutions, but its impact will depend on increased implementation, more balanced efforts, and continued meaningful inclusion of displaced populations.
