2024 was such an exciting year for BCP! We started the year in our newly expanded space and really grew into this beautiful new home, creating new and expanded programming for over 1,700 patients and their families. The addition of weekly dental services added important preventative care that can be hard to access for families with low-income. Additionally, we were able to expand our mental health group programming with BCP’s Strong Mom Healthy Baby group (a monthly group visit program for the first year of a child’s life), preteen mental health groups, and college nights to address the needs of our patients from diapers to diplomas.
BCP hired Health Resources in Action (HRiA) to truly evaluate the “special sauce” of BCP’s work. We learned that creating a new and disruptive healthcare organization that puts patients and staff at the center actually works! As one staff member commented, “[At BCP], we’re asking questions and delving into the problems that families face. Since we have more solutions here, we’re not just asking the questions to check off the box. We can’t fix everything, but we can start chipping away at the issues.”
We expanded our care navigation team so that families have the opportunity to work closely with a team member in order to address the social determinants of health. BCP worked with 699 patients to help with housing insecurity (which can take months to address), utilities, food insecurity, childcare and so much more. As one caregiver said, “There are constant check-ups, you know you’re not alone and that they care about you; it means a lot. It makes you feel like a person, like you’re valuable. They feel like partners. They’ve got your back.”
BCP won the Excellence in Innovation Award from the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network and received its first Cummings grant, among others. In November, BCP hosted our very first Voices from the Front Lines event which highlighted BCP’s new model of pediatric healthcare and the work we are doing to address the youth mental health crisis. We were honored to have such a prestigious group of speakers including MA Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. Dr. Riseberg delivered a Ted Talk-style keynote address to about 400 politicians, community members, and donors, which was a huge highlight and an opportunity to truly reflect on how far we have come in just four years. It was a moment to recognize the importance of the work we are doing and the momentum we are gaining as our traditional healthcare system continues to fail kids each and every day.
As we head towards 2025, BCP wants to leave you with HOPE - hope that we as a community can change the system. Together, we can demand that healthcare actually brings health to people and health to communities. Wishing you all health, happiness and peace in 2025!

On November 13th, BCP gathered with nearly 400 people at the JFK Library and raised $875,000 to support our work. Our event, Voices From the Front Lines: How Boston Community Pediatrics is Changing Healthcare, celebrated BCP’s work to serve children and families with low-income and expand access to high-quality pediatric healthcare. Alongside distinguished experts and community leaders, we explored the urgent challenges facing pediatric healthcare and the youth mental health crisis. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to have these conversations among our BCP community and share our vision for a healthier, more equitable future for all children. BCP is Influencing Policy and Education
|
|
BCP is inspiring our next generation of physicians and leaders and influencing policy changes within healthcare. BCP is rapidly becoming the gold standard of pediatric healthcare and with that brings opportunities for education. Beyond patient care, Dr. Riseberg advocates for systemic change, working with organizations like MassHealth and the Network for Excellence in Health Innovation (NEHI), where she recently participated in a joint payor and provider work group to find innovative ways to address mental health integration into primary care. Additionally, a Harvard Center for Primary Care case has been written about BCP and is currently being taught at Suffolk University, both in a healthcare administration graduate program and an undergraduate course, and this is just the beginning. The graduate course even came in person to BCP where Dr. Riseberg was a guest lecturer. Lastly, Dr. Riseberg recently presented at Harvard Medical School’s primary care grand rounds on leadership and equity as BCP is a leading model for equitable healthcare. |

BCP Distributed 325 Thanksgiving Meals |

Our Thanksgiving Meal Distribution offered the BCP team an opportunity to connect with families and provide all they need for a spectacular Thanksgiving dinner. This year, staff and volunteers distributed 325 turkeys, sides, and pies, 320 bags of fresh produce, 300 bags of non-perishable goods, 325 gift cards, and 370 new winter coats! |

BCP Created Holiday Magic Again! |

BCP’s holiday shop is not just about gifts; it’s a wonderful, community-driven experience providing everything families need to celebrate the season joyfully. For our 4th annual holiday shop, BCP created a winter wonderland thanks to the help of many incredible community partners, corporate volunteer groups, and generous donors. In addition to shopping for gifts, which families receive at no cost, families enjoyed festive activities: taking photos with Santa, a children’s play area, and a cozy reading nook with Curious George, just to name a few. At its core, the holiday shop is a celebration of community, dignity, and the spirit of BCP. |

BCP's Dental Services Have Been a Huge Success
|

We were thrilled to see our weekly dental services, in partnership with Boston University School of Dental Medicine, flourish throughout 2024! We are incredibly grateful to the dentists and dental students who see patients in BCP’s office every Tuesday. Throughout the year, this team provided 332 dental visits for BCP patients. By supporting BCP families with pediatric dental services and oral health education, BCP is filling a gap in access to dental care and making it seamless for patients to receive their physical and dental care all in one place. |

BCP supports staff year-round with swag, generous earned time, paid holidays, and special events throughout the year. However, our favorite event is our annual holiday surprise with Tara West. This year was over the top with mini-facials at BCP! Why is this so important? The BCP team works tirelessly to ensure patients receive the best care and deserve the best in return. Thanks to the brilliance of Tara West with the help of the Catherine Hinds Institute of Esthetics, the BCP staff were celebrated and treated to a relaxing morning of facials! Esthetician students pampered the BCP team, and each staff member walked away with a bag of goodies, thanks to Blue Mercury. |
