Tax filing day may be the most marked day on the April calendar. Dreaded by some for funds owed or paperwork requirements. Enjoyed by others anticipating refunds. Either way there is a compelling reason to enjoy an Irish Whiskey. Are you aware how much taxes have impacted the Irish whiskey industry? From volume produced, number and size of distilleries, styles of whiskey, and size and shape of pot stills, tax policies have had a direct impact. Indirectly, taxes had a profound impact on the demise of the industry when Ireland's most famous tax collector Aeneas Coffey perfected the column still. Learn all about how Irish Whiskey owes both thanks and scorn to taxes on our website here.

Irish Whiskey Society America wants to thank Mike Horton for dedicating his time and passion as Vice President from 2017-2022. Among his many responsibilities were our website maintenance, membership packages, and helping to grow the IWSA on a national level across the USA. Mike will remain busy I'm sure chasing after his grandkids. If in the Saint Louis area, be sure to look him up for an Irish Whiskey. Slainte Mike!

Many historic battles occurred in April. On the 3rd Monday of April, Patriots Day in the USA commemorates the Battle of Lexington & Concord initiating the American Revolution. In Ireland, April 23rd commemorates the Battle of Clontarf while April 24th honors Proclamation Day & the Easter Rising. In recognition of these battles, The Fighting 69th is our Irish Whiskey of the Month. Read more & our review on the website.

Have you ever wondered about the origin of this classic snack? For April, we chose an Irish pub named for an iconic tree in Ireland. To honor Arbor Day on April 28th, rather than plant a tree, we will recognize The Blackthorn in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The Blackthorn tree is traditionally used in Ireland to make shillelaghs and provide a haven for birds. The Blackthorn Pub promotes the qualities of the shillelagh, a place providing support from life's burdens & comforting ambience.
