How competitive is the U.S. male?
Look no further than our movie icons.
In the late 1960s, real-life racing enthusiasts Steve McQueen and James Garner were each sprinting to land a racing role. At the peak of their popularity, they wanted to make a racing movie. This came on the heels of their co-starring turn in The Great Escape.
In the end, Garner landed the role in Grand Prix. McQueen burned through Bullitt. But he still wanted that race movie. Five years later, Le Mans premiered. Both actors wore the stained suits, both got the girl. And they both reached the checkered flag. Box office hits, both.
But there’s a lesson here.
Are you racing through life for the right things?
Will your accomplishments matter?
Not if you don’t run your spiritual race with the Lord.
2 Timothy 4:7–8 says, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
That’s the only checkered flag that will matter in the end.
