One of the greatest delights of my life is being an aunt. Honestly, I didn’t start off too hot, but as the years passed I moved back to SF to be near my niece and nephew; we've embarked on a lot of adventures together and our bonds have cemented. Mya, now 18, has moved in with us to explore a career in the Bay Area as a child and pet care provider…it’s a whole new journey and we’re all overjoyed. Undoubtedly, there will be peaks and valleys, but I love fulfilling this dream and experimenting without too much obsession on the outcome. We’re throwing something at the wall and seeing if it sticks - this is a fantastic privilege and wading into uncharted territory is always exciting.
Speaking of aunts, I enjoyed learning about a “highly popping trend" called Auntwave recently. Loosely summarized, “It's a fresh break from the soulless brand minimalism clogging our social feeds, Auntwave’s appeal is that it reflects the singular P.O.V.s of real people whose primary motivation is not pandering to someone else’s sense of style, but chasing their own unruly visions; playing “by their own rules”; and crafting pieces that demands to be met partway by the people who encounter them…” I feel a sense of kinship with this movement, and as I continue to ponder Loyale’s existence beyond the social media sphere, I’ll be marinating in my “unruly visions” and hanging with my new roomie…XOXO
