Dear Reader:

Happy April!

All the doctors and staff at WFMP are excited to Welcome Dr. Jeffery and her patients later this month to our “clinic family”.

At WFMP everyone’s health is super important to all of us. Health is often determined by more than what happens in the clinics with doctors, nurses, and hospitals. Many factors combine to affect the health of individuals. Whether people are healthy or not can be determined by their circumstances and environment. Factors such as where we live, the state of our environment, genetics, our income and education level, and our relationships with friends and family all have considerable impacts on health. This is referred to as the Social Determinants of Health and you are going to start hearing a lot about this from us at WFMP.

To help our patients we have started a “deep dive” into how we can help our patients with the Social Determinants of Health. This month we want to talk to you about the financial part of that. At WFMP we now know what our local, provincial, and federal resources are that have to do with helping patients regarding financial issues. In addition, we have also been collaborating with the Pharmaceutical Companies and looking into provincial resources to see what is available for patients if they cannot afford the medications, how they could qualify for compassion programs, or what provincial group medication plans patients could qualify for.

If you are having trouble paying for your medication, please talk to your doctor and they will send a referral to our Community Wellness Navigator who will be in touch with you to help with different ideas or what programs may apply to you.

If you are having financial difficulties and are looking for help with resources that might help, please contact us at wfmpresources@gmail.com or Kandis at 780-312-1701 who is our Clinic Community Wellness Navigator.  Asking for help sometimes is the hardest step forward to a different path.  We are here to help.

Our hope at WFMP is that we will have a wealth of resources for our patients and our community for those who need a hand up. Next month we will talk about another “spoke” in the wheel of Social Determinants of Health. We look forward to making strides forward into the social determinants and start seeing the benefits to our patients and our community.

Thank you for reading the WFMP Newsletter.

WFMP Clinic Q&A

Q: Why do you always check my phone number and address when I come in for an appointment?

A: Things change in our lives including addresses and phone numbers, etc. WFMP does not always get notified of these changes when they occur in our patients’ lives.  If we do not ask for updated information when our patients arrive at the clinic, we may miss an important change, and may not be able to get ahold of you in the future, for things like recalls or specialist appointments.

While it may seem frustrating for our staff to ask if there are changes to your demographics when you come into the clinic, it might surprise you how often there are changes to the information we have on your file and what is current.

What's Going on at WFMP?

Dr. Jeffery Coming Soon!

As we announced on our social medias earlier this month, Dr. Jeffery is joining WFMP in April! We are looking very forward to having her join our amazing team at WFMP! :)

Organ Donor Awareness Month

Do you know that every year, thousands of people around the world wait eagerly for a second chance at life? April is a special month dedicated to raising awareness about organ donation. It's called Organ Donor Awareness Month, and it's a time when we all come together to understand the importance of organ donation and how it can change lives for the better.

Organ donation is when a person gives their organs and tissues to someone in need after they pass away. These organs and tissues can be transplanted into another person who is very sick and needs them to survive. Can you imagine the difference it can make? It's like giving the gift of life to someone who desperately needs it.

Organ donation is incredibly important because it saves lives. There are so many people out there suffering from illnesses that damage their organs. For them, a transplant could mean the difference between life and death. By donating your organs, you're giving these people hope and a chance to live a full and healthy life.

Sometimes, people have misconceptions about organ donation. Let's clear up some common myths:

Myth: Doctors won't try as hard to save my life if they know I'm an organ donor.

Fact: Doctors will always do everything they can to save your life. Organ donation only becomes an option if they are unable to save you.

Myth: I'm too old or sick to donate my organs.

Fact: People of all ages and health conditions can donate organs. Even if you have a medical condition, you might still be able to donate some organs or tissues.

You might be wondering, "How can I help during Organ Donor Awareness Month?" You can register as an organ donor. In many countries, you can sign up to be an organ donor when you get your driver's license or ID card. It's a simple way to make a big difference.

Talk to your loved ones about your wishes regarding organ donation. It's important to let your family know what you want so they can honor your wishes.

Organ Donor Awareness Month is a time to celebrate the gift of life and the incredible generosity of organ donors. By raising awareness and encouraging others to become donors, we can make a real difference in the lives of people who are waiting for transplants.

So let's join hands and spread the word about organ donation. Together, we can save lives and give hope to those in need. Thank you for reading, and let's make this Organ Donor Awareness Month one to remember!
