Looking into Laguna~B’s Parisian Roots
This month, our creative team spent four days in Paris to interview and photograph our founder Marie’s Parisian friends in their homes as part of our newsletter project, Five Questions With. Since 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of our company, we decided to retrace Marie’s creative and personal life through the words of some inspiring people who knew her well.
Given their special place in the cultural ecosystem, we took this chance to hear what they think of some of our most crucial and recurrent research subjects: luxury, the future of craftsmanship. And I won’t spoil any more.
During our Paris trip, we ate lots of French food and met new friends who inspired us. At Three Star Books – a wonderful publishing house located at 49, Rue Albert – we met the founders Christophe Boutin and Melanie Scarciglia, who’ve worked tirelessly on some of the most exciting artist books published over the last 17 plus years, together with their partner Maddalena Quarta.
The trip was the perfect team building experience, too! Wait until March to read our first Parisian interview.

Nature di Luce: A Chandelier Like No Other in San Marco
Our Nature di Luce chandelier will be visible for one more month, hanging from the ceiling of the Procuratie Vecchie porches in the heart of San Marco square, as part of the outdoor exhibition “Murano Illumina il mondo” – “Murano Lights up the world.”
The chandelier, developed in collaboration with botanist and researcher Giacomo Bernello and the University of Padova, hosts a self-sufficient plant ecosystem and only employs functional materials such as Pyrex glass and stainless steel.
Giacomo Giossi, a journalist from the Italian newspaper Il Foglio, described Nature di Luce as “A new approach to artistic glass production, pointing to a new possibility for the city itself.”

Pleasant Place N°1 – Enclosures
Book tip by Erica Toffanin
Our stylist, Erica Toffanin, who just came back to Venice from Melbourne, suggests a book she says could help us find some solace from the Winter cold.
Pleasant Place is a growing collection of publications about the art of gardening. When she left for Australia in December, Erica took Pleasant Place’s Issue 1. – ‘Enclosures' -- with her. The volume is a collection of essays and photos investigating fences, hedges, gates, walls, and other physical barriers that demarcate the literal garden space. It also features four artistic interpretations of the garden enclosure, plus a DIY foldable sculpture. Erica and her partner Trevor, a gardener and landscaper, built it for their garden. You can find this book in the B~Library!
The B~Library is an exciting Laguna~B side project. It is a book collection curated (and continuously updated) by @studio.bruno located at Spazio, in Dorsoduro 3276, Venice. Anyone can borrow any book every day from 10 AM to 7 PM. Come and visit!

Our Connection to the Lagoon

The results of the collaboration with the Department of Linguistic and Literary Studies at the University of Padua are collected in the volume “Ecologies of the Imaginary. Venice, the Lagoon and the Fantastic”, available online and coming out soon in bookshops. A creative writing workshop for undergraduates included multiple sessions, presentations from experts, and an excursion to the island of Sant'Erasmo.
