In our work, we often question the role of luxury in today’s society. What’s your opinion? Can luxury be separated from consumerism?
Luxury, for me, is quality, anything that is quality. Quality of time, quality of fabrication, quality of craftsmanship. Yes, it can be separated from consumerism: luxury doesn’t have to be something you buy.
Sharing a meal at the same table is a great way to build community. How important is conviviality at your table, and what do you do to enhance it?
Conviviality is love. How you share love, how you share food. It’s about sharing. So obviously making a beautiful table makes the sharing more special. The perfect dinner party? Great conversations and good food.
Are you a collector?
I have my diary. I keep my letters. I keep photos. I’m a collector of souvenirs as sometimes souvenirs take the shape of objects. The psychology that drives it? Again, it’s about loving life.
