Exciting news awaits this week as we offer you a sneak peek into our newest coffee! Get an early taste of this vibrant washed Bourbon varietal from the community washing station Busasa, nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Burundi. This delightful coffee exudes liveliness and playfulness, accompanied by a complex sweetness that evokes warm sunny days. To do justice to its character, we proudly name this coffee Hopscotch for the Rosso menu.
Located in the captivating Muyinga District of Burundi, Busasa is a coffee washing station that has been skillfully operating since 2014. Operating with efficiency, the station boasts a small yet dedicated team of 6 full-time members and up to 150 casual workers during peak seasons. Its extensive setup includes a total of 151 African drying beds, and it collaborates with a community of 1600 farmers, who diligently supply cherries from the surrounding hills. This season, Busasa's producers have received a remarkable 20% premium above the local market rate, demonstrating their commitment to equitable practices.
Busasa stands proudly alongside its sister washing stations, Businde and Nyagishiru, both of which have previously graced the Rosso menu. These three stations share ownership under Matsitsi Trading Coffee (MATRACO), which envisions the development of rural Burundi through the production of specialty coffee. True to their vision, MATRACO doesn't merely stop at providing high premiums to their dedicated employees; they also contribute to the local community by distributing essential fertilizers, including coffee pulp, and offering seedlings to nearby farmers.
With Hopscotch, we invite you to embark on a delightful coffee journey that not only delights the senses but also embodies the values of sustainability, community upliftment, and exceptional coffee craftsmanship. Cheers to embracing new flavors and supporting coffee communities together!
Enjoy!
