We are thrilled to announce that Cyesha (sigh-a-shaa) is the latest member of the Muraho Trading Co family, joining our partners in Rwanda. Situated in the Nyamasheke District, the station is adjacent to the renowned Lake Kivu, providing ideal growing conditions for coffee. The area boasts an altitude range of 1460 - 1720 masl and is blessed with rich, volcanic soils that are perfect for coffee cultivation. Muraho is responsible for our other Rwandan coffees, Bumbogo, Kilimbi, Rugali, and Gisheke. The coffee offers a refreshing and elegant fresh fruit acidity; like Apricot and Raspberry. And that is followed by a syrupy sweetness that reminds us of Maple Syrup!
In 2022, a total of 470 farmers registered their coffee with Muraho, making it the first season for coffee production at Cyesha. Notably, 23% of these farmers are female, underscoring our commitment to supporting women in coffee farming.
Cyesha's former owner approached Muraho with an offer to purchase the station, stating a preference for a smaller player rather than one of the industry giants. Given its location near our other stations in Nyamasheke - Rugali, Kilimbi, and Gisheke - we made an immediate decision to acquire the station, which provides unique positioning and exciting new opportunities for our operations. Moreover, our seven-year history in the area has allowed us to build strong existing relationships.
We are also proud to note that the Cyesha management team is the youngest among all of our stations across Muraho, and we look forward to working closely with them to create a bright future for this new addition to our family.
Enjoy!
