Legion - Alberta-NWT Command
Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day

After so many months of pandemic and other bad news, we here at AB-NWT Command are very much of the view that we should take the time to celebrate Canada and all of the accomplishments that we have made as a country. The values of peace, freedom, and democracy are ones that our Veterans fought for and we continue to work towards every day in our service to Veterans and to our communities.

The past 16 months have been hard and the recent news about unmarked graves at residential schools should spur all of us to act and do our part to make Canada a better place for all Canadians. But let’s not forget that there are reasons to celebrate our country and we hope that on July 1, you will take the opportunity to be thankful you’re Canadian.

Carstairs Legion Donations

Carstairs Legion #53 Makes Donations from the Poppy Fund

The Carstairs Legion No. 53 will be making donations from their Poppy Fund to two local cadets programs and two high school bursaries in addition to a $10,000 donation to AB-NWT Command Service Officer program. (Thanks, your support is appreciated!)

On June 4, the local Poppy Fund delivered a cheque for $7,000 at the Didsbury Hospital. Mark Moncur, President of the Carstairs Royal Canadian Legion No. 53, presented a cheque for $7,000 to Brad Blatz of the Rosebud Foundation. This money will be put towards the purchase of a new "big wheel" stretcher for the Didsbury Hospital's Emergency Department. This will help them continue to provide outstanding care to our Veterans and the general public. Thanks to all who contribute to our Poppy Fund!
