Welcome to the latest Limestone Coast tourism industry update. This newsletter is designed to keep operators informed about current issues, opportunities and ways we can work together to support and promote tourism across our region.​

With H5 bird flu detections confirmed in wild birds across parts of the Limestone Coast, we understand visitors may have questions about the situation and what it means for their holiday plans.​

To help operators respond confidently to visitor enquiries, a Limestone Coast H5 Bird Flu Tourism Operator Toolkit has been developed. The toolkit brings together the latest information, key messages and useful resources in one place to help operators provide visitors with clear and consistent information.​

Operators should continue to refer to the latest South Australian Government and PIRSA advice when responding to visitor questions, as information and advice may change as the situation develops.

If you have experienced visitor cancellations or changes to bookings that you believe are related to H5 bird flu, please let us know.​

SATC is monitoring the impact on tourism. This information will help us understand what is occurring across the Limestone Coast and whether additional visitor communications or marketing activity may be required.​

As we continue to build our regional tourism program, we would like to hear from operators about what is happening across the Limestone Coast.​

The National Farm Tourism Survey is gathering insights into where farm tourism operators are right now – from paddock tours and farm stays to cellar doors and other visitor experiences.​

If you are a farmer delivering visitor experiences, or know farmers in the region who welcome visitors, your contribution can help build a better understanding of what farm tourism means to farmers, their families and regional communities.​

The survey takes only a few minutes to complete, and operators are encouraged to share it with other farmers involved in tourism.​

Recreational fishing is an important part of the Limestone Coast visitor experience, and South Australian fishers are demonstrating strong stewardship of the fisheries and aquatic environments they enjoy.​

A recent Recreational Fishing Stewardship Survey found that nearly 8 in 10 South Australian respondents demonstrated strong stewardship values, with 57.9% identified as “Committed Social Stewards” – well above the national average of 33.3%.​

The findings highlight that many recreational fishers are already contributing to sustainable fisheries through responsible fishing practices, sharing knowledge and participating in research, surveys and monitoring.​

For tourism operators catering to recreational fishers, these findings are a useful reminder of the importance of providing visitors with access to current fishing information and responsible fishing practices.​

PIRSA provides resources including the SA Fishing app, recreational fishing information and opportunities for fishers to contribute to research and monitoring.​
