Summer has officially begun! Read along as I share my recommendations for the best ways to celebrate the first month of summer.

This issue of Copenhagen Unfolded is written by Emilie, who is part of the Visit Copenhagen editorial team. For Emilie, June marks the beginning of summer holidays, which means getting out to enjoy the city and the (hopefully) great summer weather.

For me, this month has a theme: cycling! The Copenhagen Sprint cycling race is taking place this June, and I'm not only going to watch it – I'll also be out enjoying the many great experiences along the route. So hop in the saddle – here's what we have lined up:

Even though cycling races isn't usually my biggest interest, the atmosphere at Copenhagen Sprint last year completely won me over – so of course I'll be back again this year!

On June 13 and 14, Copenhagen will transform into one big cycling celebration for Copenhagen Sprint. For the second year in a row, some of the world's best cyclists will race through the streets of Copenhagen, while thousands of cheering spectators fill the city with energy and excitement.

The event features two professional races: an elite race for women and an elite race for men. Throughout the Copenhagen Sprint weekend, you can also experience concerts, talks, a cargo bike parade and a public cycling event, where anyone can ride the route before the races begin, and much more.

If you already have plans during the Copenhagen Sprint weekend, or you're not completely sold on the idea of going to a cycling race, I can definitely recommend using the route for your next trip around the city. It's a wonderful way to experience Copenhagen – with or without the race.

Along the route, you'll find many of Copenhagen's coziest gardens and parks – and what better way to enjoy summer than outdoors surrounded by greenery? I'm especially fond of Ørstedsparken and Assistens Cemetery, as both places have a truly magical atmosphere. They're filled with history, from old monuments and winding paths to historic graves waiting to be explored. At the same time, the towering old trees and lush greenery give the parks a calm, almost fairytale-like feeling right in the middle of the city.

There are many more parks and gardens, vibrant urban neighborhoods, cultural gems, and plenty of other great spots along the route. We've put together a guide to the best stops to explore along the way.

As you make your way through the Sprint route, Copenhagen unfolds like a buffet of aromas, flavours, and small pockets of calm. Along the way, the city is full of culinary favourites where you can take a well-deserved break while treating your taste buds.

Here are three stops that take the experience to the next level – whether you're out early, in the middle of the day, or rolling in as the sun sets:

Morning at Kala Bar: Start your day in Nørrebro with a Copenhagen classic – a freshly baked sourdough bun with cheese, just the way the Copenhageners know and love it. If you need a little extra power for the pedals, their moist banana bread is also a must-try.

Lunch at Palægade: In the heart of Copenhagen, you'll find one of the city's best smørrebrød spots. Palægade brings classic favourites into the present with elegant, beautifully presented dishes that not only taste good but are also a treat for the eyes.

Evening at Oysters & Grill: When the day's adventures come to an end, dinner at Oysters & Grill in Nørrebro is the perfect finale. Here you'll find summer on a plate – grilled delicacies from both sea and land, and perhaps a cocktail as the finishing touch.

Copenhagen Photo Festival (11–21 June): During Copenhagen Photo Festival, Copenhagen is transformed into one large gallery, and at Refshaleøen you'll find the festival's hub with talks, exhibitions, and visual experiences.

3 Days of Design (10–12 June): The city buzzes with creativity during 3 Days of Design, as Danish design houses such as Frama and Fritz Hansen open their doors and invite you to explore form, colour, and craftsmanship.

Copenhagen Midsummer's Eve (23 June): The magic comes alive as Midsummer's Eve approaches and bonfires light up across the city. In my view, some of the coziest places to experience it are Tivoli, Reffen, and Frederiksberg Gardens, where community and tradition come together.

I’m ready for cosy bike rides and memorable experiences this June – I hope you are too!
