February has arrived, and the winter cold still has a firm grip. Luckily, the month is full of bright moments that make it easy to find little cosy moments – whether you're outside exploring Copenhagen or prefer to stay inside the heat.
This edition of Copenhagen Unfolded is written by Anna who just joined the editorial team at VisitCopenhagen. She is is a true food enthusiast, culture lover, and someone who genuinely enjoys discovering her own city. She is excited to help shine a light on the countless hidden gems here in the world's most wonderful capital.
In my opinion, February has its own unique charm. When the days are short and the frost bites your fingertips, we move closer together to share the warmth of each other's company – perhaps at one of our Winter Session events?
In addition, the month brings Copenhagen Light Festival, which beautifully lights up the city, delicious cream-filled buns to satisfy your sweet tooth, and indoor flea markets filled with hidden second-hand treasures. Read on as I share my recommendations for things to do in Copenhagen this February:

- Indoor flea market adventures

WINTER DARKNESS BRIGHTENED BY COPENHAGEN LIGHT FESTIVAL
Copenhagen takes on a very special glow when the Copenhagen Light Festival lights up the city again this year. From 30 January to 22 February, you can experience no fewer than 45 light artworks stretching from Nordhavn to Ørestad, transforming the winter darkness into visual adventures.
I find it fascinating how light can be transformed into art that decorates the city with atmospheres that tells stories. Besides exploring the installations on your own, you can also participate events arranged by the festival – from guided tours or light run to social beer walk with Nørrebro Bryghus.
I plan to round off the Copenhagen Light Festival at one of Copenhagen's best wine bars. It's the perfect way to warm up while letting all the artistic impressions sink in.

THE ANNUAL "FASTELAVNSBOLLE" FEVER
If you ask me, one of the best things about February is that the season of 'fastelavnsboller' peaks – a beloved seasonal Danish pastry traditionally enjoyed around the holiday 'Fastelavn'. All the bakeries around Copenhagen is ready with a lavish selection of this popular delicacy.

Flere Fugle in Copenhagen's Northwest district has particularly caught my eye this year. On Instagram, they tempt with a fastelavnsbolle filled with sea buckthorn, mascarpone cream, citrus, and a hint of licorice. Andersen Bakery is also high up on my personal bucket list this year, with their version of fastelavnsboller resembling little edible works of art.
However, I can never quite let go of my love for an old-fashioned fastelavnsbolle – you can never go wrong with a classic, right? My absolute favorite one of these is from Rondo, an organic bakery in Nørrebro.

I hope you get to enjoy a few of these sweet Danish treasures.

INDOOR FLEAMARKET ADVENTURES
I love hunting for recycled gold. It feels like a treasure hunt where you never quite know what you'll find. Here in the winter cold, I plan to visit some of the many indoor flea markets.
Right now, for example, I'm dreaming about what finds will sneak into my spring wardrobe. But I'm also facing a move, so in addition to clothes, I'm also looking for interior design items that can make my future flat feel homely. There's just something special about giving new life to used things.
I have already marked three dates this February in my calendar to visit the flea market at Bella Center, Veras Marked in Nørrebrohallen and Sams Loppemarked in Remisen. Check out this calendar for the exact dates and times, and to get an overview of all the upcoming flea markets in Copenhagen.
Of course, the city also offers plenty of other experiences. In collaboration with a number of partners, we have created Copenhagen Winter Sessions. It's a list of events that welcome winter with warmth – the perfect opportunity to experience the city in a new way. I hope to attend all three types of events myself:
Wellness Tuesdays: Tuesdays are all about wellness – for example, sauna sessions with aroma therapy, morning yoga at Absalon, or group runs in Fælledparken, which can give you energy for the rest of the week.
Dining Wednesdays: Wednesdays are for communal dining at the home of a Copenhagen senior citizen, where good stories and authentic, cosy socialising take centre stage.
Winter Bathing Thursdays: Thursdays are for the brave who dare to take an ice-cold dip in the harbour followed by something warm to drink – a real favourite activity for many Copenhageners, and Danes in general.
In any case, I am now ready to face the last month of winter with these cosy winter recommendations. I hope you are too, now that you have a little extra inspiration in your pocket☃️🩵
But remember, these are just my recommendations. At the editorial office, we're just as interested in hearing yours, so please let us know if there's anything you feel that we've missed.
We’ll be back in a month with much more on all the best of Copenhagen.
