Christina made a choice and will spend the month of May dealing with the consequences of that choice...
This issue of Copenhagen Unfolded is written by Christina, who is part of VisitCopenhagen’s editorial team. She recently made a wonderful but hugely unwise financial decision: She got a puppy. A chocolate-coloured miniature dachshund named Lars, who swallowed up her entire savings.

So this is my May. I’m going on a pawternity leave (get it? PAWternity!🐾) and having fun with Lars in Copenhagen on a budget, and you can follow my lead by keeping on reading.

PODCAST: INSIDER'S GUIDE TO COPENHAGEN 🎧
VisitCopenhagen has made a podcast in which an array of foreign Copenhageners take Danish radio and television host Esben Bjerre by the arm and show him some of their favourite places in the city. It's called "Insider's Guide to Copenhagen" and is jam-packed with hidden gems.
So far, there are four episodes out, and I'm looking forward to walking through Copenhagen, listening to the podcast, learning more about the city, and visiting the many excellent recommendations for food, culture, neighbourhoods, and so on.
If you're not local, you can find the local's favourite places, and if you're local like me, you can find places you never knew existed. Maybe we'll meet out there. It's a win-win!
No money? No problem! There are lots of affordable and free things to do in Copenhagen. We’ve put together several guides to the best things to do and experience on a budget.
If you're also looking for affordable dining, you can easily find it in Copenhagen. Whether you want something easy and delicious or value-for-money restaurants, they're readily available.
I'm definitely going to Paesàno, an Italian restaurant located in Nørrebro with affordable meals and a "help yourself" attitude. I'll also swing by Höst for a set menu for a really decent price. Even when you're on a budget, you need to treat yourself a little.

GREEN AREAS IN COPENHAGEN
Having a dog equals a lot of walks - but to be honest, I think it's mostly me who needs to be walked. It's so wonderful to be able to enjoy green treetops, flowers, and bushes and feel the sun on my skin again. And again, it's great for my budget.
Copenhagen is packed with green spaces, gardens, parks, and oases, which I'm grateful for on a daily basis. Good walks, places to find inner calm, nice picnic spots, and places to spend quality time with Lars are never far away. King's Garden for instance, the oldest royal garden in Copenhagen, is always worth a visit.
In addition to the three things above, I have a lot of other stuff on the program in May. I'm going to the Museum of Illusions, which has just opened and is open every day between 10-22 to challenge my perception of reality.
I'm also going to Byhaven in Pumpehuset, which is finally opening up for the summer program. I'll also stop by Formation Gallery to see Carl Krull's new exhibition, "NECTAR", which is his second solo exhibition at the gallery.
What a month! Puppy, Copenhagen and spring are the perfect recipe for a good life - I don't really know what more I could ask for!
But remember, these are just my recommendations. At the editorial office, we're just as interested in hearing yours, so please let us know if there's anything you feel we've missed.
We’ll be back in a month with much more on all the best of Copenhagen.
