🎵 Guess who's back, back again, Unfolded is back, tell a friend 🎵
Welcome to 2024's first Unfolded! I've been so excited to sprinkle some Copenhagen recommendations again and share a few of my favourite activities with you.
And I know: February is cold and dark. But it's actually just the perfect excuse to seek out the light, cosiness and fastelavnsboller. Here are my suggestions for what I'm doing in February and what I'd like to recommend to you too:
- Cafees among art
- Copenhagen Light Festival
- What the he** is a fastelavnsbolle?
- February specials
Normally, you would associate the cafés in a museum with a museum visit. But did you know that there are several museum cafés in Copenhagen where you don't have to pay to get in?

I think there's something very special about a museum café. You sit and enjoy your food or drinks while surrounded by art. Regardless of your food (and art) preferences, there's a museum café for you. We've put together a guide to help you find your next favourite spot!

COPENHAGEN LIGHT FESTIVAL
As Albus Dumbledore said, "Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." And that's actually the cure for getting through February in Copenhagen. For the seventh year, Copenhagen Light Festival will be live on the streets of the city.
The whole thing is free. All you need is warm clothes and good walking shoes, and you're ready to let the light in.

WHAT THE HE** IS A FASTELAVNSBOLLE?
Fastelavn is a Danish tradition, which is a lot like Halloween but without the spooky aspect. Children dress up and go trick and treating and parents stay at home and eat fastelavnsboller. The bun comes in two versions, either the old fashioned, which is a closed bun with a Lord Mayor filling, and the regular one is a Vienna pastry, often a cream filling.
I've been looking forward to this intensely: Fastelavnsbolleseason. After all, it's the bun/cake that contains the recipe for happiness. Fortunately, Copenhagen is a city with countless bakeries, and even better, many of them have created their very own take on a fastelavnsbolle.
There's everything your heart desires, so we've put together a fastelavnsbolle guide to help you find exactly the one you want. But finding your favourite takes a few tries. Luckily, February is a long month, so you have plenty of time to try them all 😉.
What a way to start the year! 2024 starts off with lights, cake, art and coffee. What more could you want?
But remember, these are just my recommendations. At the editorial office, we're just as interested in hearing yours, so please let us know if there's anything you feel we've missed.
We’ll be back in a month with much more on all the best of Copenhagen.
