Spring has truly arrived, and it feels like the city has finally come back to life. If April had its own soundtrack, it would, in my opinion, certainly be "Here Comes the Sun" – bright, light and full of new energy.

This issue of Copenhagen Unfolded has been written by Anna from the Visit Copenhagen editorial team. In this edition, she shares all her favourite spots for when that spring feeling really starts to take hold in the city.

I've been looking forward to this time of year, when a chilled glass of wine in the sunshine feels like a little celebration, and a stroll through the parks becomes the highlight of the day. Soon the cherry trees will also be in full bloom, transforming the city's paths into pink tunnels. April is full of little gifts of spring – and here you can find ideas for places where you can experience them:

- Spring's picturesque green escapes
- When seasonal produce takes centre stage on the plate

Outdoor dining in April's first warm rays of sunshine
One of the things I've been looking forward to in April is settling down at some of the city's many outdoor cafés and restaurants. To me, drinking a cold glass of wine and feeling the first warm rays of sunshine in my face is the very essence of spring.
One place I've been looking forward to visiting once the sun starts to warm is Kayak Bar. Here, you can sit right by the water and enjoy a drink or a light bite with a view of Copenhagen's canals. Another favourite spot of mine is the BRUS beer bar in Nørrebro, which has a large, atmospheric outdoor area, a great vibe and an impressive selection of craft beers.
I also can't get through a summer without visiting Banegaarden. The place feels like a peaceful escape and a green oasis in the middle of the city, and here you can really let your shoulders relax.
I'm looking forward to seizing every opportunity to sit outside and feel spring unfolding all around me.

Spring's picturesque green escapes

Spring flowers are beginning to bloom, and this is particularly noticeable in Copenhagen's many parks. The trees are sprouting fresh, light-green shoots, and the spring sunshine casts a soft glow over the paths. I'm looking forward to long walks with a hot barista coffee in hand, whilst nature unfolds around me in the most beautiful way.
There are two green spaces in particular where I find a very special sense of peace: Frederiksberg Garden, where the idyllic setting automatically helps me slow down, and Ørstedsparken, where the buzz around the lake, blankets spread out on the grass and chats in the sunshine create a light-hearted and cheerful atmosphere.
And then there's Christianshavn – my all-time favourite neighbourhood. A stroll around Christianshavn gives me everything I associate with the joy of spring: views of the water almost all the way round, colourful houses, houseboats, cobbled streets and an atmosphere that feels both relaxed and full of life.
It's right now, as the sun and the colours return, that I'm reminded of why I love Copenhagen so much.

When seasonal produce takes centre stage on the plate

April means spring in the kitchen, and I'm absolutely thrilled because two of my favourite ingredients are finally back in season: asparagus and rhubarb. They taste of brighter days, and I'm looking forward to enjoying them to the full all month long – both when I am out and about and at home.
I've already picked out a couple of great restaurants where I know spring's produce is given free rein to shine. At both Baka d’Busk and Bistro Lupa, the focus is on creating culinary experiences using the very best of the season, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they let spring leave its mark on the menu.
But I want to bring a touch of spring into my kitchen as well. That's why I'm planning a trip to "Bondens marked" (the Farmers' Market), where I can fill my shopping bag with fresh delicacies and take them home to cook up in my own pots and pans. There's something quite special about cooking a meal in your own kitchen when the ingredients are so good that you can't help but end up with a truly delicious meal.
April also brings plenty of other experiences and offers that make exploring Copenhagen even more fun. Here are some of this month's highlights:
Tivoli in full bloom: Tivoli is once again ready to welcome visitors with its flower-filled beds, the scent of popcorn and that unique atmosphere that only Tivoli can create. Spring has brought the gardens to life, making it the perfect spot for a spontaneous afternoon stroll.
Reffen is buzzing with life: Reffen is back with street food, sunshine and a lively atmosphere by the water.
Free Fridays for young people at DAC: The Danish Architecture Centre has launched a new initiative for people under the age of 27. Every Friday in 2026, admission is free from 4 pm to 9 pm – the perfect way to kick off the weekend for anyone interested in Danish architecture.
I wonder if you've caught the spring fever too? I hope you'll feel inspired to dive into the city's many offerings, which are brimming with spring energy and good vibes.
But remember, these are just my recommendations. At the editorial office, we're just as interested in hearing yours, so please let us know if there's anything you feel that we've missed.
We’ll be back in a month with much more on all the best of Copenhagen.
