Summer in Copenhagen: It's simply the best I know! Sun, holiday atmosphere and life and happy days in every street and alley. It all calls for a lot of wonderful experiences in the city.
That's why it's great that CopenPay is back again this year - this time with three times as many attractions ready to reward you with free (or cheaper) experiences for your good choices and deeds. Psst... As part of CopenPay, we’d like to invite you to a free community meal. Read more in the green box below.
What your deed can be and how you'll be rewarded is up to each individual place. In this issue of Unfolded, I, Andrea, have selected some of the CopenPay attractions that I'm definitely planning to visit this July. We'll be covering the following:
- Free concert at URBAN 13
- Breakfast at Kayak Bar
- Slow down at Hotel Hornbækhus
- July's Specials
We’d like to invite you to a very special free lunch experience, full of flavour and generosity on the menu!
In collaboration with the nonprofit organization JunkFood, we’re inviting up to 200 guests (first come, first served) to a unique community lunch on Saturday, June 28, in Frederiksberg. You’ll be treated to delicious food prepared with a focus on reducing food waste – all made from surplus ingredients. In addition, Rasmus Munk, founder of the Michelin-starred restaurant Alchemist, will stop by to share the story behind the project.
JunkFood works every day to fight food waste and support socially vulnerable people – and now you can get a flavorful insight into their work.
Please note that the registration deadline is June 26.
We can’t wait to see you!

Under Bispeengbuen, the controversial highway between Nørrebro and Frederiksberg, lies URBAN 13 – a creative and cultural urban space with containers that function as entrepreneurial offices, food stands, workshops, street sport courts and a cultural centre that is a concert venue, cinema, theatre and community centre.

URBAN 13 focuses on the meeting of people and community across different backgrounds. All their profits go to social causes in the neighbourhood or in Copenhagen – that's what I wanna see!
As part of the CopenPay project, Urban 13 now gives you the chance to attend a free concert at their venue, GARAGEN, on August 14, on the condition that you spend 30 minutes picking up trash at the site earlier that day. The offer is only available through online booking using the promo code COPENPAY. I love going to concerts, so I’ll definitely be stopping by URBAN 13 with a big trash bag!

Kayak Bar is one of my favorite summer spots. It’s located right on the canals beneath Knippelsbro, in a protected area surrounded by historically iconic buildings. If you're the adventurous type, you can rent a kayak and enjoy a fun day on the water. But if you're more into relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere, like me, you can settle down on the pier and enjoy a lovely lunch or drink among palm trees and colorful lights – pretty exotic, right?
At Kayak Bar, history, water, and culture come together, making it the perfect gathering spot in the summer! Concerts, exhibitions, and other events are regularly held here, and everyone is welcome. Community and social responsibility are core values at Kayak Bar, just as much as reuse and sustainability are in focus.
During CopenPay, you can get a free coffee of your choice from Monday to Friday between 9 and 11 AM when you buy Kayak Bar’s breakfast plate for 99 DKK – as long as you arrive by bike or public transport. I’ll definitely be heading down for a cozy summer morning by the water.
And pssst! In July, Kayak Bar will host four live concerts as part of the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. See you on the pier!

SLOW DOWN AT HOTEL HORNBÆKHUS
One of Denmark’s best beaches is located in Hornbæk, about 55 km north of Copenhagen. You can get there by taking the scenic train ride along the Coast Line, followed by a regional train from Helsingør to Hornbæk. It’s the perfect little summer getaway from the city.
In the small coastal town, you’ll also find the charming red wooden house, Hornbækhus, which has been a beach hotel since 1905. This summer, CopenPay offers a 10% discount on stays at Hornbækhus for those who arrive by public transport.
So if you need to get away from the city for more than just a day, this could be the perfect option. Hornbækhus is located in idyllic and peaceful surroundings and exudes Danish summer vibes. There are 36 rooms, none of which are alike, making the place authentic and unique. You can also join the hotel’s many activities, such as running club, knitting club, or yoga.
There are so many great partners taking part in CopenPay this year that it’s hard to fit them all into Unfolded. But I just have to highlight a few more that I’m planning to check out.
BaneGaarden, located between Sydhavnen and Vesterbro, is truly one of Copenhagen’s loveliest summer spots, if you ask me. During CopenPay, you can pick up trash in the area and get a free organic meal from one of the street food stalls. Be sure to also check out their many cool events, like music bingo or crayfish feasts.
Summer holidays also mean more time, and I want to spend it ticking off some of Copenhagen’s great museums. For example, I’ve never been to Designmuseum Danmark, which, as part of CopenPay, offers a free cup of coffee at the museum café Lille Format – as long as you bring your own cup.
I hope you’ve been inspired to get out into the city and enjoy the summer weather – CopenPay is definitely a great way to collect wonderful experiences.
But remember, these are just my recommendations. At the editorial office, we're just as interested in hearing yours, so please let us know if there's anything you feel thatr we've missed.
We’ll be back in a month with much more on all the best of Copenhagen.
