As Justin Timberlake once said… "It’s gonna be MAY". Here are some recommendations for things to see, do and taste in the last month of Spring.
This issue of Copenhagen Unfolded is written by Emil, who is the SoMe-manager of VisitCopenhagen's Instagram and Facebook accounts. For Emil, May marks the start of the sailing season, a city in full bloom and long evenings spent outside.

The other day I had an experience that, for me, perfectly captured the feeling of May. While walking home from a trip to the local recycling station, I noticed a woman waiting for the green light on her bike. Her eyes were closed, and a big smile lit up her face as a ray of sunlight hit her. I couldn’t help but smile too and think: "Yeah, I totally get it.". Read along as I recommend things to indulge in this delightful month. We're going to cover the points below:
- Taste your way through Copenhagen's craft beer scene
- The Roman Osteria next door
- Best place to pick travel souvenirs? The flea markets!
- May specials

TASTE YOUR WAY THROUGH THE VIBRANT BEER SCENE IN COPENHAGEN
Craft beer has been on the rise for quite a few years now, and it has never been easier to get a hold of good quality beer. Having worked in the brewery-industry in Copenhagen in the past, I can’t avoid recommending the beer event of the year, the MBCC festival standing for Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen.
From 23-24 May, you can experience over 100 different breweries from around the world visiting Copenhagen, serving everything from well-known beer classics, experimental flavour combinations and beers brewed just for this occasion. It's the perfect event for those who are just starting to dip their toes in the world of craft beer, but also if you're a die-hard beer expert. No where where you are on this spectrum, make sure to remember to drink water along the way! 😉
Leading up to the festival, there are many different beer events going on all around the city, ranging from tap takeovers at bars to beer releases and special events.

THE BEST ROMAN OSTERIA NEXT DOOR
One thing I love about having moved to a new neighbourhood is finding your new local ‘something’ – the local pizzeria, the local grocery shop or mayne the local coffee shop. Well, I just moved to Frederiksberg, and I think I found my new local restaurant. It's called Fojetta, and you can find it on Borups Allé.
The name Fojetta derives from an old measure unit used by Roman taverns, which the Vatican created in the 15th century.
Today, you can get a Fojetta (which is a half-litre pitcher of wine) at the local Frederiksberg restaurant, along with some classic Italian dishes like focaccia bread with the best mortadella in the world, cacio e pepe, and supplí. It’s super tasty, the atmosphere is laid-back, and it is also affordable. I would be impressed if you went home hungry or disappointed after a visit to Fojetta.

BEST PLACE TO PICK TRAVEL SOURVENIRS? THE FLEA MARKETS!
I’m a big fan of travel souvenirs. During my travels, I always try to pick up at least one magnet for my fridge and a few vinyl records from a local band. I’ve been keen on checking out local flea markets lately, because there is no better way to find a truly local and sustainable souvenir. And the May weather is perfect for this activity.
Luckily, there are plenty of different flea markets to choose from when you visit Copenhagen, which you can check out during the weekends. Whether you are looking for furniture, vintage trinkets, or secondhand fashion, there is something for everyone.
If you’re still thirsty and can’t wait for Mikkeller Beer Celebration Copenhagen, then you should venture down to The Meatpacking District and check out Warpigs' 10th anniversary on the 1st to 4th of May. There will be metal, karaoke, live wrestling and plenty of beers. What’s not to like?
Other festivals that deserve a shoutout in May are the Bloom Festival (23rd-25th of May), the biggest science and nature festival in Copenhagen, and CPH Stage (22nd-31st of May), which is the yearly celebration of performance art and theatre in Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. I will definitely try to check out both this May!
Last but not least, you should check out the mini-festival A Colossal Weekend if you are in Copenhagen from the 8th to the 10th of May. It’s a weekend dedicated to genre-crossing and boundary-pushing heavy, dark and experimental music hosted in one of – if not the – most beautiful venue in Copenhagen. Sounds killer, right?
I can’t wait to soak up some more sunshine with a smile on my face this May and I hope you will too at one of the amazing events happening in Copenhagen this month.
But remember, these are just my recommendations. At the editorial office, we're just as interested in hearing yours, so please let us know if there's anything you feel that we've missed.
We’ll be back in a month with much more on all the best of Copenhagen.
