Issue 43. * January 29th, 2025

We're back with yet another inspiration for big and small experiences in Copenhagen in February. We hope to see you soon!

This issue of Copenhagen Unfolded is written by Kasper, who is the editor of VisitCopenhagen's digital channels. Kasper loves bikes, Copenhagen and surfing - and his favourite colour is currently blue.

Sometimes, and admit it, that includes you too, the couch and the good movies and books might be the favourite activities during these cold months. But there are still many exciting things to experience. So get out of your armchair and out the door with your eyes and ears open wide.

  • Art lights up Copenhagen
  • The 'fastelavnsbolle' is still going strong
  • Ramen noodles: Warmth for body and soul

ART LIGHTS UP COPENHAGEN

It's (almost) February and we're moving towards brighter times in more ways than one. The days are getting longer, we're getting more daylight, but just as importantly, the Copenhagen Light Festival is back to light up the city with more than 50 light installations.

This year's Light Festival runs from 31 January to 23 February. As well as seeking out the many artworks on your own, as I plan to do, there are also a number of events to take part in, ranging from guided tours, canal cruises, light runs and silent disco dancing. Tickets are rumoured to be selling out, so hurry and see if there are any left here.

THE FASTELAVNSBOLLE IS STILL GOING STRONG

The 'fastelavnsbolle' is still a huge thing in Copenhagen. New bakeries are opening, experimenting with flavours and aesthetics that will make your jaw drop and your mouth water. Who makes the best one of the year? Well, it's probably a matter of taste, and the best way to find out is to taste your way through yourself.

I haven't quite decided which ones to try myself this year. But my choice has been made easier by the fact that we've once again updated our extensive list of places that are serving up tasty and interesting offerings of this cake this fastelavnsbolle-season, as they say in the vernacular.

We don't claim to include everyone, so if you think we're missing someone, please drop us a line and let us know what we've missed.

RAMEN NOODLES: WARMTH FOR BODY AND SOUL

It's freezing cold, you've been out chasing fastelavnsboller and light installations all day, and now you need something to warm your bones from the inside. My go-to on a day like that is a good serving of Japanese Shoyo Ramen.

I usually frequent Ramen to Biiru in Vesterbro because it's practically my neighbour. But it's also been a while since I visited Slurp Ramen Joint in Nansensgade. Slurp aims to serve the best ramen in Scandinavia. Again, I'd rather not be the final judge of flavour, but personally, I think it's really good.

If you're less into ramen but love Asian cuisine in general, check out our guide here.

FEBRUARY SPECIALS
We've mentioned it before, but we're doing a podcast where Esben Bjerre takes 'expats' who lives here around Copenhagen and the surrounding area to experience the city from their perspective. There are so many great tips on culture, food, experiences and much more. Find it here.

And there are two very different events in the city that are worth checking out if you're into one or the other or maybe even both. From 31 January to 28 February there's Winter Jazz throughout the city and from 13-15 February there's Copenhagen Gaming Week, where you can meet Danish game developers, experience live e-sports and much, much more.

OVER AND OUT

I'm ready to dive into February, and with the prospect of light art, sweets buns and hot noodles, I hope that you are too πŸ˜‰

But remember, these are just my recommendations. At the editorial office, we're just as interested in hearing yours, so please let us know if there's anything you feel thatr we've missed.

We’ll be back in a month with much more on all the best of Copenhagen.
