Jazz enthusiasts have much to look forward to with a slew of exciting titles on the way, including new releases by Superposition, Ibrahim Maalouf, Bremer/McCoy, Masahiko Satoh & Takeo Moriyama, as well as must-have reissues by Donald Byrd and Juju.
'II' is the second album by Superposition and marks a significant melodic evolution while building upon their previous free jazz endeavours. Ibrahim Maalouf's 'Trumpets of Michel-Ange' features his signature quarter-tone trumpet alongside top-notch instrumentalists like Trombone Shorty and double bassist Endea Owens. Jonathan Bremer and Morten McCoy return with their third project, 'Kosmos,' a beautifully crafted album infused with American Jazz and Nordic folk songs. Recorded in 2019, 'Live At Café OTO,' captures vibrant, free-improvised explorations from pianist and composer Masahiko Satoh and drummer Takeo Moriyama, together with saxophonist Idris Rahman and bassist Leon Brichard.
Recorded in 1969 and 1970 and released in 1995, Donald Byrd's 'Kofi' serves as a testament to his unique, pioneering fusion ventures. Lastly, 'Chapter Two: Nia,' is Juju's soon-to-be-reissued album, originally released in 1974, which showcases their innovative blend of jazz, funk, and African rhythms.
