INNOVATIONS
👩🏽🌾 Syngenta Group is expanding its Cropwise Grower digital platform in India to give smallholder farmers greater access to agronomy advice, AI-driven crop insights and market information. Used by more than 2.3 million farmers, the app offers personalized recommendations, early pest detection and local-language support, with plans to integrate government-backed digital agriculture services.
📍 Researchers at Yunnan Land and Resources Vocational College, working with scientists from multiple institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, have developed a machine learning model using Sentinel-2 satellite imagery to identify coffee farms with about 95% accuracy. The authors say the model could support sustainability planning by helping balance coffee production with conservation goals.
🌱 Kaffea-X has launched a digital marketplace for specialty green coffee, aiming to tackle price opacity, inconsistent product descriptions and counterparty risk in global trading. The platform combines standardized product identification with live pricing data and escrow-backed settlement options. Its developers say the system is designed to improve price discovery, comparability and payment security across coffee markets.

PARTNERSHIPS
🤝 This month saw two new partnerships focused on insurance for coffee farmers. Generali and UNIDO announced an alliance to support sustainable coffee production in Africa, aiming to boost socio-economic conditions, climate resilience, and local value addition through public and private solutions, including parametric insurance. Shortly after, CelsiusPro and ECOM unveiled a collaboration to provide Indonesian coffee, cocoa, and cotton farmers with parametric insurance covering climate and natural disaster risks. The partnership includes co-designing products under a “Consumer Pay” model, and capacity-building programs to train farmers, agronomists, and agribusinesses on insurance solutions and climate risk management.
