MUSEUM NEWS: It's Alive!

Frankenvette: Building GM's Ultimate C3 Corvette

Last April, I started on another crazy car project: Frankenvette. The goal? Build a C3 Corvette using all of GM's best components from the 12-year C3 series (1968-1982). We started with a bare frame and built the car one piece at a time. A total of 9 cars donated parts, in addition to tons of new components.

On Christmas Eve, she fired to life and drove for the first time! Screaming yellow with black interior, 4-speed manual transmission, and loud pipes. Can't wait to terrorize the neighborhood come spring.

Remember to stop out on Valentine's Day for the winter boneyard tour. Hot drinks, cold cars, and tall tales await! Saturday, February 14th, 9am-5pm. Free admission for all ages.

FEATURED: Jack Boyd Smith Jr.

A Collector Sharing Classics With the World

Jack Boyd Smith Jr., 65, is an Indiana-based businessman who has quietly built one of the most meticulous private car collections in the United States, known as The JBS Collection. His passion focuses on preserving rare prewar and coachbuilt automobiles and then putting them back into the public eye through loans to major museums and concours events.

One highlight is his "Earhart" Cord, invited in 2024 for a six-month installation at The Henry Ford Museum's National Historic Vehicle Register display in Dearborn, Michigan, where it remains on exhibit into 2025. Smith also launched a behind-the-scenes video series, "The Journey," beginning October 9, 2024, to showcase restorations like a 12-cylinder 1934 Packard Twelve 1108 Custom Convertible Dietrich Sedan originally commissioned by heiress-explorer Louise Arner Boyd. His work turns what could have been a hidden warehouse collection into rolling history lessons for enthusiasts and families. Read More →

JIM CLARK'S 1965 INDY 500 WIN: END OF THE FRONT-ENGINE ERA

In 1965, Scottish driver Jim Clark won the Indianapolis 500 in a Lotus-Ford rear-engine car, the first Indy victory for this configuration. After this race, a traditional front-engine car never again won the 500, as the lightweight, rear-engine design quickly became the standard in American open-wheel racing. The Lotus-Ford combined a European-style chassis with a powerful Ford V-8 engine, proving that better balance and aerodynamics could beat brute force alone. For enthusiasts, Clark's win marks the turning point when Indy racing stepped firmly into the modern era of engineering-driven performance. Read More →
