A MESSAGE FROM US
Co-founder thoughts
Anyone else feel like September has been a bit of a reset? There’s that back-to-school feeling in the air – fresh notebooks, cosy jumpers, and a little spark of motivation that makes everything feel possible again.
At femme, we’ve been riding that wave too: slowing down when we need to, learning more about our bodies, and having some big, honest conversations about health. This month’s newsletter is full of the things we’ve been exploring together – we hope you love it.

What we're looking forward to in October...
October is almost here - and we're celebrating the softer side of this time of year: pumpkin carving, movie marathons and those long, cosy nights in.
But it’s also an important month for women’s health, here’s what we’ll be exploring together:
🌙 Menopause Awareness Month – shining a light on symptoms, support, and the conversations we still need to have.
🧠 World Mental Health Day – talking openly about mental health and cycles, and how hormones can impact mood and wellbeing.
💗 Baby Loss Awareness Week – honouring stories, raising awareness, and creating space for compassion and support.
🌡 The Pain Points of Traditional BBT – breaking down why old-school basal body temperature tracking can be frustrating, and what we can do differently.

A dose of positivity
FROM BBT TO BALANCE: A JOURNEY TO HORMONAL HEALTH
“It’s probably just low mood - here’s a prescription.”
That’s what one woman was told after months of feeling off. But deep down, she knew it wasn’t just that.
Instead of settling, she started working with a menstrual health coach. They looked at her cycle and tracked her BBT (basal body temperature) to see what was really going on.
Turns out, her progesterone was low - and that can seriously mess with your mood. With the right support to rebalance her hormones, things started to lift.
Sometimes, it’s not all in your head. It’s in your hormones.

The latest in women's health
🤰Pregnant women in England living with type 1 diabetes will now be offered an artificial pancreas to help manage blood glucose and reduce risks such as miscarriage, stillbirth, and birth complications.
🧴AndroFeme, a 1% testosterone cream formulated specifically for women, has just been licensed by the UK’s MHRA for postmenopausal use - offering a body-identical, easier option for treating symptoms like low sex drive and fatigue, when HRT alone isn’t enough.
🩸Women with long COVID report longer, heavier menstrual bleeding and irregular bleeding between periods. A survey of over 12,000 women found iron deficiency may worsen symptoms like fatigue and dizziness.

MEET PROGESTERONE: YOUR COZY BESTIE
If oestrogen is the life of the party, progesterone is the friend who shows up afterwards with tea, blankets, and a “let’s calm down” vibe.
After ovulation, progesterone swoops in, produced by the little structure left behind in your ovary (the corpus luteum - think of it as a temporary hormone factory). Its job? To turn down the lights, set the scene, and prep your body for a possible pregnancy.
|
|
What does it do?
- Raises your basal body temperature (your internal thermostat goes up a notch).
- Stabilises the womb lining, making it extra snuggly in case a fertilised egg needs somewhere to stay.
- Chills you out (at least at first), often bringing a sense of calm and better sleep.
But here’s the twist: if pregnancy doesn’t happen, progesterone levels fall off a cliff. And that sudden dip? That’s what triggers your period - plus the classic PMS mood swings, cravings, and “why did I just cry at an advert for butter?” moments.
|
|
|
|
So in short: progesterone is your autumn hormone - warm, grounding, and soothing… until it packs its bags and leaves, taking your chill with it.
