Spring Campus Walks Have Begun
Two events completed - many more to come!
|
|
Our campus walk season kicked off this week with our first event on Monday, March 11th at Murphy Deming College of Health Sciences in Fishersville, and then continued with our Old Dominion University walk on Saturday, March 16th in Norfolk. Both events are accepting donations until June 30, 2024.
Thank you to everyone who has played a role in planning these events this year, and to everyone who is participating or fundraising. With thousands walking across the Commonwealth to save lives and bring hope, we can definitely say that HOPE WALKS HERE!

Advocacy Corner
Dr. Lorna Breen Healthcare Provider Protection Reauthorization Act
|
|
Please email your members of congress today by clicking "Take Action" below to urge them to cosponsor the Dr. Lorna Breen Healthcare Provider Protection Reauthorization Act (H.R.7153/S.3679) and to support a resolution to establish March 18th as "Health Workforce Well-Being Day of Awareness" (S.Res567)!
Named for Dr. Lorna Breen, an emergency room director tragically lost to suicide at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, this important law has provided $103 million to 44 organizations across the country to implement evidence-informed strategies that address suicide risk, burnout, mental health conditions, and substance abuse disorders among the healthcare workforce.
Many healthcare professionals are at increased risk for suicide, and it is vital that we support the members of this dedicated and tireless workforce.
Thank you for your advocacy and for supporting suicide prevention.

AFSP Virginia staff and volunteers were honored to attend the announcement of a new, multi-year partnership between the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Bechtel in Washington, D.C. on March 5th. The event focused on raising awareness, educating stakeholders on this crisis among those employed in the profession, and beginning to build a coalition to prevent construction worker suicides industry-wide.
Bechtel’s $7 million dollar commitment to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention will provide critical resources and programming to 500,000 U.S. construction workers over the next five years.
