Dandelion Vineyards Lioness of the McLaren Vale Shiraz 2017

Dandelion Vineyards Lioness of the McLaren Vale Shiraz 2017 - $20.95
LCBO #357475

Deep purple with hints of violet on the edges, indicating youth.  Impressive purity of fruit showing lush scents of summer pudding with lifted red fruits, berries and a hit of cinnamon. Wild black cherries, Damson plums, mulberries and milk chocolate undertones.  Generous mouth filling sweet blackberry, raspberry and plums cover the palate with lashings of sweet spice.  Firm but fine tannins and milk chocolaty nuances enhance the purity of fruit and continue through with a youthful finish.

95 Pts & Gold – James Halliday,, August 1, 2019

“Hand-picked, crushed to open fermenters, 12 days on skins, 18 months maturation in French and American oak, largely used. Deep crimson-purple; full-bodied, but not the least oppressive, letting all things McLaren Vale free to express themselves. Blackberry, black cherry and bitter chocolate are wrapped in a gauze veil of ripe tannins.”

J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 - $89.95
LCBO #246918

The 2014 vintage of J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon expresses this classic valley floor site in an approachable way.  Savoury fruit elements wrapped in a barrel signature of hazelnut and cocoa powder.  Firm and angular in structure with red and blue fruits on the finish.

95 Pts & Platinum – Rich Cook,, September 26, 2017

“J. Lohr's estate vineyard in St. Helena always produces some great wine, and here's another one, showing rich cassis, blackberry, dried herbs and some stone minerality in aroma and flavor profiles, and finishing long and well integrated already.  No surprise there!  A Platinum award winner at the 2017 Sommelier Challenge International Wine & Spirits Competition.”

Bodegas LAN Gran Reserva 2011

Bodegas LAN Gran Reserva 2011 - $34.95
LCBO #928622

Garnet with ruby hues. Aromas of ripe red fruits combined with spicy notes from the aging in oak (Vanilla, cinnamon, fennel, licorice root) and tertiary aromas (leather, cigar box…) from its prolonged bottle aging. Full bodied and round, its mouthfeel is elegant and very well balanced.

Food pairing:  roasted meats, lamb, hearty stews and cured cheeses.

94 Pts – James Suckling, July 26, 2019

“This is an impressive Gran Reserva. It opens with cinnamon, five spice, iodine, vanilla, resin, elderberries, cherry liqueur, blackberries and black raspberries. The palate is plush, full-bodied and very concentrated, but there’s enough depth of field to the tannins to take on the immense, dark-fruit flavors. Some cutting acidity drives this home. Drink in 2024.”

Chateau Peyros Vieilles Vignes Madiran 2015

Chateau Peyros Vieilles Vignes Madiran 2015 - $20.95
LCBO #234997

Red cherry robe, intense and brilliant.  The nose is now well opened with intense notes of fruits (cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant) with notes of vanilla and lightly toasted.  The mouth is both powerful and elegant.  Tannins are present and well coated.  On the palate, fruit aromas are really dominating with a long finish.

Food Pairing:  roasted meat, (lamb, beef), saucy meat, spicy beef tartar, duck breast.

93 Pts & Editors’ Choice – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, June 1, 2019

“This blend of 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Franc is dense and boldly structured. Firm tannins dominate the powerful black-fruit flavor, producing a wine that still needs more aging. Drink from 2022.”

Aurelio Settimo Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata 2014

Aurelio Settimo Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata 2014 - $54.95
LCBO #293761

This wine is garnet red with ruby highlights.  The notes of wood and hint of licorice prevailing on the nose are typical of the wines aged in the traditional local style.  On the mouth it is appealingly dry, with well-balanced tannins.

92 Pts – James Suckling, September 24, 2018

“What a unique nose of pure lavender, incense, citronella, citrus, spearmint, thyme and dried sage. The medium- to full-bodied palate is very subtle and focused with tightly wound tannins, loads of floral undertones, good acid drive and a fine finish. Drink now.”

“Beautiful Southern Rhone medium-plus, unfiltered, red wine blend of 75% Grenache with Syrah and some Mourvèdre grapes from "vielles vignes" in the Costières De Nîmes, Rhône wine region. Produced by Michel Gassier. Wine grapes are destemmed and the blend is matured for 1 year on the lees in French oak barrels. The Grenache portion is kept in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness.”

Chateau de Nages Vieilles Vignes White 2017 Organic

Chateau de Nages Vieilles Vignes White 2017 Organic - $19.95
LCBO #479659

Beautiful bright yellow with green highlights.  Notes of ripe yellow fruits (peach, pear, pineapple), flowers (acacia and rose), and vanilla.  Silky attack, with volume and fruity richness. Long dynamic finish with a touch of salinity.

92 Pts – Joe Czerwinski,, October 31, 2018

“The 2017 Costieres de Nimes Blanc Vieilles Vignes offers hints of apricot and lime and a plump, custardy-lees richness on the palate. This blend of 45% Grenache Blanc, 25% Roussanne, 20% Viognier and 10% Clairette is medium to full-bodied, with plenty of concentration and length. It's hard to believe such a terrific white wine is available for under $20.”

Food Pairing:  Excellent with roasts and stews, red meats, small game, cheese and cold meats.

92 Pts – James Suckling, August 2, 2018
