Chateau de Nages – JT Red 2015

Chateau de Nages JT Red 2015  LCBO #736876 $26.95

A deep, almost black, garnet colour.  Classic syrah notes of dark berry fruit, licorice and smoke. Medium bodied with a velvety tannic presence.  The finish is very long with spices, mineral notes and freshness.

94 Pts Jeb Dunnuck, October 19, 2017

“Bottled but not released yet, the 2015 Costieres de Nimes JT is 95% Syrah and 5% Mourvedre, always from the same plot, that was fermented with 40% whole clusters. It offers gorgeous notes of blackberries, violets, hints of olive and even a touch of bacon fat, medium to full-bodied richness, beautiful mid-palate density, and a great finish. Reminding me of a top Crozes-Hermitage, it’s seriously good.”

J. Lohr – Flume Crossing Sauvignon Blanc 2018

J. Lohr Flume Crossing Sauvignon Blanc 2018
LCBO #418228 $23.95

The 2017 Flume Crossing Sauvignon Blanc is pale yellow in color, highlighted by aromas of honeysuckle and daffodil, bell pepper, fresh herbs, and lime. Barrel aging this wine in acacia wood results in a rich texture and a long finish.

Food Pairing:

Serve with seared scallops sautéed in citrus butter, halibut with lime and tarragon, sushi, or as an aperitif with goat cheese or oysters.

94 Pts – Rich Cook,, March 12, 2019

“Once again, a unique Sauvignon Blanc thanks to the use of a little acacia wood that adds depth to the correct varietal aromas and flavors.   I am glad to see the winery sticking with this methodology!   A Platinum Award winner at the 2019 Monterey International Wine Competition.”

Montes – Alpha Pinot Noir 2016

Montes Alpha Pinot Noir 2016  LCBO #143214 $19.95

Brilliant and striking ruby red with a violet hue.  The nose is very aromatic with aromas of red fruits recalling strawberries and tart cherries in liqueur.  Fragrances of wild flowers and violets deliver the illusion of sitting in the forest shade.  Complex.  With time, seductive aromas of caramel waft from the glass and mingle with tenuous notes of fresh tobacco and dulce de leche.  The palate is juicy, with very balanced acidity and the sweetness of round, ripe tannins.  The generous and elegant mid-palate accentuates all of the sensations perceived on the nose, and the finish is remarkable and pleasing.  The 2016 vintage of this coastal Pinot Noir once again opens the senses with the great joy it gives us year after year.

92 Pts – James Suckling, March 16, 2018

“A fruity and complex red with smoke and spice. Some cedar, too. Full body, round and velvety. Pretty finish. Drink now.”

Bodega Argento – Reserva Cabernet Franc 2015

Bodega Argento Reserva Cabernet Franc 2015
LCBO #668335 $14.95

Ruby delicate colour, aromas of cherry, raspberry, currant leaves and fruits.  We could find also in this wine some spice, herbs and cassis.  Rich and full body, very expressive in term of aromas, sweet tannins and long finish.

90 Pts – James Suckling, April 5, 2018

“This may not have a lot of cabernet franc character but is a nice glass of fullish-bodied, ripe (but not overripe) red wine with moderately-dry tannins. Drink or hold.”

Villa Sandi – Merlot DOC 2016 +23390 $16.95

Villa Sandi Merlot DOC 2016  LCBO #23390 $16.95

Intense ruby red.  The aroma is markedly fruity with a predominance of blackberry, but also small red berries.  It has an agreeable flowery hint of rose with a delicate pepper nuance.  Dry and persistently flavoursome.  Notable round tannins and a warm, pleasantly bitter aftertaste.

Food pairing:

Suited to veal stews with forest mushrooms.  Excellent with roasted red meat and semi-hard cheeses.

Huntaway – Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Huntaway Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2017 LCBO #536276 $19.95

This Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc shows true Lower Wairau intensity with an abundance of blackcurrant, nashi pear and tomato leaf aromatics with underlying herbal nettle notes, creating layers of complex savoury notes on the nose.  The wines power follows through to the palate displaying lovely fruit concentration balanced with chalky almost mineral acidity. The wine is powerful yet superbly balanced and immediately appealing.

Food pairing:

Designed to complement a wide range of cuisines this wine will excel in partnership with fresh goats cheeses and anything involving tomatoes, pears and olives.
