May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we are partnering with the rest of the Eastern Division of AFSP to offer educational programming all month long. Check out the schedule below and register to attend our FREE education programs virtually!
Suicide Prevention in the Construction Industry
May 6 (12 pm or 6 pm ET), May 7 (2 pm ET), May 8 (1 pm ET) Based on AFSP's flagship suicide prevention education program, Talk Saves Lives: Construction is a new program that has been adapted for the construction industry. Presented by a construction industry professional, this program will provide a 20- minute overview of suicide in the construction industry, risk factors and warning signs of suicide, and strategies to prevent it. The remaining time will be followed by Q&A and information on how construction companies across the U.S can bring this presentation to jobsites and offices.

Talk Saves Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention
May 8, 12-1 pm ET
AFSP’s 60-minute flagship suicide prevention education program that covers the scope of this leading cause of death, what the research has found to be the warning signs and risk factors of suicide, and the strategies that prevent it. For Maternal and Perinatal Mental Health Awareness Week (May 5th - 11th), this presentation will include information on suicide risk during the perinatal period.

Finding Hope: Guidance for Supporting Those at Risk May 13, 6-7:15 pm ET
When someone in your life attempts suicide or struggles with suicidal thoughts, it can be difficult to know how to best support them in their recovery. This program was designed to provide you with information, resources, and practical guidance on how to support someone in your life with a lived experience of suicide.

More Than Sad for Parents May 15, 6-7 pm ET This program teaches parents how to recognize signs of depression and other mental health problems, initiate a conversation about mental health with their child, and get help. This program focuses on parents and guardians of teenage youth.

AFSP Research Connections: Genetic & Life Factors in Suicide Research
May 21, 12:30-2 pm ET
Learn more about the genetics x environment interaction in relation to suicide. Here, two studies examining this process, one about childhood adverse events and one regarding substance use, will be presented. A discussion will follow of the differential impact of various factors on suicide research and suicide prevention.

The Construction Hike for Hope is an event meant to engage the construction industry on the importance of mental health and suicide prevention. According to the CDC's data on suicide risk within occupational groups, the construction and extraction industries were found to to have the highest rate of suicide in the U.S. This year, we will be hiking on May 18th, 2025 at Sunken Meadow State Park. We invite all to join us, you don't need to be part of the construction industry to participate in the hike!

Join Team Brittany for a car show in celebration of what would have been Brittany's 30th birthday. Enjoy the car show in the back parking lot then eat dinner at your leisure. Brittany's family & friends will plan to eat dinner around 7 pm in the back room. 20% of your dinner bill will be donated to AFSP as long as you say you are part of the car show. 50/50 and raffles.
