Suffolk County Community College Hosts 8th Annual Campus Walk!
Suffolk County Community College celebrated it's 8th Annual Out of the Darkness Campus Walk on Saturday, April 20th on their Ammerman Campus in Selden. Despite the rain that morning, the event was well attended and a positive experience for all. The College's President Edward Bonahue was in attendance as well as Suffolk County Legislator Nick Caracappa and Stephanie Stafford, Chief of Staff to Suffolk County Legislator Chad Lennon. Mental Health and Wellness Services and Veterans Services collaborated with student clubs and organizations such as the Veteran Students of America chapter on campus to host the event and this has been an amazing partnership that has further promoted the success of the walk. This year's walk raised over $8,500! You can help SCCC reach their $10,000 goal by June 30th by making a donation today!

Volunteer Spotlight: Hope Slovin
Hope became involved with AFSP Long Island in 2016 after losing her former spouse and the father to her son to suicide. A little over a year ago, Hope became a Healing Conversations volunteer for our chapter. As a Healing Conversations volunteer, Hope has provided 1:1 support to many loss survivors. Hope recently took on the role of Healing Conversations Coordinator for our chapter. In this role, she oversees the Healing Conversations program, ensuring that all new requests are appropriately matched with volunteers and working to grow awareness for the program and increase the volunteer base. We are so grateful to have Hope as part of the AFSP Long Island team!
