Top Teams, Fundraisers, and Sponsors Recognized at Community Walk Awards
On January 23rd, we gathered together to recognized the top fundraising teams, individuals, and sponsors from our 2024 Community Out of the Darkness Walks season. This year's Long Island Walk finished as the #2 Walk in the country out of over 400 walks! Our community works so hard throughout the year to raise funds so that we can execute our mission of saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide here on Long Island and it was important that we took a moment to recognize some of our shining stars that make this work possible! Team captains and their team members joined us for an evening of celebration and recognition and fun was had by all! We're so grateful to all of our fundraisers, whether you raised $20 or $20,000, so thank you for all that you do! We're here to support you in your efforts and if you have ideas of ways to fundraise but need a little assistance getting them off the ground, Carrie is our fundraising guru and would love to support you, so please reach out to her at caronson@afsp.org. Check out our top fundraising teams for both walks!

Fundraising Spotlight: Suffolk County Sheriff's Office "No-Shave February"
Shown above are some of the Deputies that participated in the inaugural "No-Shave November" back in 2018. Deputy Sheriff Joseph Gallo is in the middle.
In December, we shared a fundraising spotlight on the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office for their incredible fundraising and awareness work with their "No-Shave November" campaign that raised $10,000, benefitting AFSP Long Island. Well, we're highlighting them again this month because they've decided to keep growing that facial hair for "No-Shave February!"
In 2018, Deputy Sheriff Joseph Gallo proposed participating in No-Shave November and SCSO has participated every year since then. In February of 2024, Deputy Sheriff Gallo lost his life to suicide and SCSO changed their supporting charity to AFSP in his honor. With this February being the first anniversary of his passing, SCSO, in partnership with the Suffolk County Corrections Office, will be honoring his memory by asking friends, family, and community members to make a donation to their fundraising team and ask Sheriff Toulon to adjust the grooming standards for all sworn personnel for the month of February. We join SCSO in remembering Deputy Sheriff Gallo and invite you to support their efforts by clicking the button below and making a donation:
